The Central Florida chapter of AWAM was founded to support and empower women in the aviation maintenance industry throughout the region. We welcome new members, corporate sponsors, and donors who share our commitment to advancing diversity and career opportunities in aviation.
Promoting women within the field of aviation mechanics is essential for building a more inclusive, innovative, and effective workforce. Historically underrepresented in technical aviation roles, women bring valuable perspectives and problem-solving skills that enhance team performance and workplace culture. Encouraging more women to enter and advance in aviation maintenance not only helps address the industry’s growing demand for skilled labor but also ensures that career opportunities are open to all based on ability and ambition—not gender. By supporting mentorship, training, and visibility for women in the field, the aviation industry can better reflect the diversity of the communities it serves.
OUR GOALS:
- Engage with local communities across Central Florida to promote conversations about workplace diversity within the aviation maintenance field.
- Build a strong professional network by connecting with individuals and organizations across the national and international aviation industry.
- Educate and mentor students and career-seekers about aviation career paths, with a focus on aircraft maintenance, manufacturing, and technical roles.

Education
Choosing the right aviation mechanic school shapes your skills, confidence, and career path. A good school holds FAA Part 147 approval, provides modern labs and real aircraft, and builds strong hours on the tools. The best programs add mentorship, internships, and clear job placement support so you move from class to hangar with ease. They also welcome and support women and other underrepresented students, which strengthens teams and opens doors. Use networks like AWAM to find schools that value safety, inclusion, and hands-on learning. Here is a list of aviation mechanic programs in Florida.
