Sanford Airport Aviation Day

AWAM had a great time taking the wiring bracelet kit to Sanford Airport Aviation Day. We had a chance to interact with hundreds of kids and introduce them to Aviation Maintenance as a career path while teaching them how to use wire strippers and crimpers.By the end of the day we had run out of pre-made bracelet kits and were making them on the fly. We made over 250 bracelets!
Seminole High Girls in STEM Day

AWAM was excited to speak about careers in aviation maintenance and bring our wiring project to teach a group of 8th grade girls how to strip and crimp wires for a special Girls in STEM event. Add in a fun airplane charm and they had a bracelet or necklace to take home and enjoy.
Girls in Aviation Day with WAI 2018

AWAM joined the Central Florida chapter of Women in Aviation International for their Girls in Aviation Day event. AWAM members represented maintenance and taught the girls how to squeeze a rivet and use a pneumatic engraver to make a key chain souvenir
Visit to Broward College
August 31ST, 2018
In support of the AWAM national Scholarship Program, Chapter 23 took a ride to South FL to visit the Broward College Aviation Maintenance Training program. One of the students present for the visit applied and ended up being selected as a 2019 scholarship recipient!
Visit to National Aviation Academy
In April two Central Florida chapter members went on a visit to National Aviation Academy in Clearwater, FL to talk to students about AWAM and our scholarship opportunities. The students were receptive and excited to learn about all the scholarships available specifically for part 147 A&P school students.
Girl Scout Troop Meeting
December 6th, 2017
An Orlando area girl scout troop invited AWAM to a meeting to learn about aviation maintenance and airplanes in general. Our chapter president had a great time explaining what we do as aircraft mechanics and the kids got a chance to use real tools to take apart a toy biplane and put it back together. The biggest surprise for the girls was hearing that you can be a girly-girl and still be a mechanic!

Daytona Beach Cleanup
We may be aircraft mechanics first, but we are Floridians, too! A group of chapter members and some friends traveled out to Daytona Beach armed with ambition and trash bags and spent the day cleaning up the sand and surf for all to enjoy.
